December is a busy month, and it is easy to forget who we are actually celebrating amongst all the good food, events, preparations and decorations. The Names of Jesus advent calendar will hopefully help you to keep Jesus at the center of it all, as we find out more about the different titles used to describe him in the Bible. The advent calendar includes:
An A5 spiral bound book which has in it:
– 25 linocuts, each representing a different name of Jesus
– 25 reflections, written by 25 different authors
– 25 QR codes which take you to a reflection video for each name of Jesus
The box also contains:
– 25 wooden tree ornaments – each engraved with one of the 25 linocuts
– 8m of sparkly embroidery thread (you can choose from gold, light gold, silver or bronze) to hang your ornaments
The book is divided into 5 sections (not including day 1 and day 25). Each section has a short Bible reading to do at the start, then a Bible verse exploring a different name used for Jesus for each day. There is a hand carved linocut image for every name, which has been laser cut into a wooden hanging ornament for you to use. These could be hung on your Christmas tree, on a branch or if you are feeling very creative on a purpose built ‘wall tree’.
Each page also has a QR code which, when scanned, will take you to a 1 minute art reflection video showing the creation of the image, with the Bible verses that inspired it. If you are using this resource as a family, then you may want to hide the wooden ornament each day for younger members of the family to find (accompanied by chocolate?) The reflections have been written by 25 different authors whose ages range from 12 to 87, and who represent 15 different Church communities who all love Jesus. They are aimed at anyone over the age of 10, but you are welcome to adapt and simplify for younger children. We hope you enjoy discovering more about who Jesus is this advent.
